Soho Light

Soho Light

Soho is probably my second favorite neighborhood to spend an afternoon in next to West Village, so here are some of my favorite places to go.

The Butcher's Daughter

The Butcher's Daughter

Living in New York, I sometimes like to make a conscious effort to eat a healthy meal (and pretend that I don't finish every meal off with gelato anyway).

Sant Ambroeus

Sant Ambroeus

In the many times I had visited New York (I even used to go to boarding school in Long Island) before I moved here, I had never been to West Village once.

Montmartre

One of the things I really miss in New York is the abundance of places where you actually enjoy eating outside. Don't get me wrong, a lot of places have outside seating, but I don't particularly enjoy sitting on an extremely noisy and dirty avenue even if the food is amazing.

Isola at the Mondrian Hotel

Anyone who knows me in the slightest, knows I seriously love to brunch. The great thing about the states is that they're brunch experts and you can literally have brunch anytime between 8 am and 5 pm during the weekend.

Buvette Eggs

Buvette Eggs

Buvette happens to make the best ones I've ever had, simply using steam from a coffee machine …

Cafe Gitane

Cafe Gitane New York

In the course of my exploration of brunch places in New York, I stumbled across Cafe Gitane in the Jane Hotel. I felt like I was eating in a restaurant in Morocco with the overhead fans and the interior of the restaurant, which overlooks the nearby Hudson River.

I had iced coffee (obviously) and baked eggs with smoked salmon, potatoes and toast, with a side of fruit salad. I always love when something has unique or unexpected seasoning, so I really loved these eggs!

Cafe Gitane New York West Village Brunch

Carolyn had granoly with fruit, yoghurt, and mint, which was honestly some of the best fruit I've had in the city so far. In other words you have to try our new favorite place in West Village:

La Colombe Coffee

La Colombe Coffee

Sometimes you just need some really good coffee to start off your day, and La Colombe is definitely one of my ultimate favorites. They have their own roast of coffee, and while I always go to their Nolita location when I'm in New York, they also have cafes in Philadelphia, Chicago, Washington DC and Seoul and you can even order their coffee online if you feel like it. So just pop by if there's one near you and grab a cup together with one of their great cookies!
