Buvette Eggs

Buvette Eggs

Buvette happens to make the best ones I've ever had, simply using steam from a coffee machine …

Cafe Gitane

Cafe Gitane New York

In the course of my exploration of brunch places in New York, I stumbled across Cafe Gitane in the Jane Hotel. I felt like I was eating in a restaurant in Morocco with the overhead fans and the interior of the restaurant, which overlooks the nearby Hudson River.

I had iced coffee (obviously) and baked eggs with smoked salmon, potatoes and toast, with a side of fruit salad. I always love when something has unique or unexpected seasoning, so I really loved these eggs!

Carolyn had granoly with fruit, yoghurt, and mint, which was honestly some of the best fruit I've had in the city so far. In other words you have to try our new favorite place in West Village:

La Colombe Coffee

La Colombe Coffee

Sometimes you just need some really good coffee to start off your day, and La Colombe is definitely one of my ultimate favorites. They have their own roast of coffee, and while I always go to their Nolita location when I'm in New York, they also have cafes in Philadelphia, Chicago, Washington DC and Seoul and you can even order their coffee online if you feel like it. So just pop by if there's one near you and grab a cup together with one of their great cookies!

The Smith

The Smith

My best friend Emma recently moved into her new apartment and is now an expert in all things East Village, so she took us to one of her favorite brunch places: The Smith. (Don't worry they have locations in midtown and the Upper West Side too!) The atmosphere is relaxed and it's lovely to enjoy the fresh air from the big windows as you eat.

For our first room mate brunch of the year, Carolyn and I went to Bubby's, conveniently located not too far from our new apartment. Their iced coffee was one of my favorites I've had so far in New York and I almost finished it before we could place our actual order for food!

Carolyn had granola, yoghurt and fruit.

And I had the biggest and fluffiest pancakes I have ever seen. I'm really not sure how it's humanly possible to finish much more than one of these bad boys!

And a bit of fruit salad for me, to make me feel ever so slightly healthy.

Find them right by the highline and make sure you go for a walk right after, to burn off those pancake calories!

Steak Frites

steak and fries New York Entrecote

Some restaurants are simply brilliant in their simplicity, and while I wouldn't go to Entrecote for dinner every day, it always perfectly hits the spot. While I love burgers, I'm a meat lover at the end of the day, so steak and fries will always be my ultimate favorite meal. They don't have a menu, they just ask how you would like your steak filet to be prepared, write it on the table and serve you your salad starter with bread. Two servings of delicious steak filet and perfectly crisp fries are soon to follow, along with their delicious secret green sauce. I'd be lying if I said I don't dream of this place at night sometimes.

Try them out here in NYC, or in Paris, London or Hong Kong!

Bar Pitti

Bar Pitti New York Restaurant

Bar Pitti is right around the corner from my old dorm. They make incredible Italian food, and while it was still a bit colder, we decided to brave it and sit outside, warming ourselves with pasta and mozarella, while we watched the sun go down.

They write down all the specials in chalk on a huge black board, which you're given to read, as you munch on bread and olive oil.

We started off with a classic: mozarella and tomatoes.

Then followed prosciutto and mozarella sandwiches. (We clearly have a thing for mozarella)

Tagliatelle with cream tomato sauce.

Fried Chicken Lunch

Momofuku Fried Chicken Lunch

Momofuku is already a pretty cool place to eat, but if you book ahead you can get their fried chicken lunch or dinner, which takes everything to a whole new level, as my room mate Diya can confirm.

We started out with shrimp buns.

And sausage buns.

Then came the chicken with these four sauces: spicy chili, duck sauce, scallion sauce and

With fresh veggies.

And the masterpiece: one southern style buttermilk fried chicken and one spicy Korean fried chicken.

My favorite was the Korean fried chicken, with duck sauce wrapped in a pancake.

And the not so tasty aftermath of our meal:

And for desert salted pretzel truffles, "The Ritz" cookies and soft serve from Momofuku milk bar.

Make sure you reserve in advance, it's pretty popular and now I definitely know why! Find them in East Village:
