Amsterdam really took me by surprise. I added it to our summer trip as a last minute thought, but in hindsight I really think it should have been a priority instead. I felt like I was exploring a European version of West Village with canals, so really it was more than up my alley. I immediately needed to start researching how to rent a canal townhouse for next summer.
My tips for Amsterdam are really quite simple: make sure you spend as much time as possible strolling around the canals, definitely take a boat ride and eat as many stroop waffles as possible. If you want a great view of the city definitely check out the Doubletree Hilton! We loved staying at the Waldorf Astoria for the convenient location. My favorite restaurant during our stay was RIjks at the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum is definitely a must see (it's really easy to prebook tickets online, so make sure you plan ahead!).
