We were nearby for state championship in swimming, and the day got really long in between the races. It is sometimes easier to try to get a table on short notice than planning ahead. We were lucky and were taken care of with charm and finesse by Mrs Reitbauer herself in a dirndl and her team. This is a legendary "Wirtshaus" known for its quality meat and excellent kitchen open only from Thursday to Sunday. They have their own meat aging room strictly at 2°C. In their kitchen they use regional products of best quality and with wit and decades of experience their guests are treated with the best of care and surprised by a lot of humor and ease.

We were last there on a Friday, which is traditionally the day for fish at the Steirereck Wirtshaus. We all went for the meat this time. I had peppers for starters and a beautiful boneless stuffed chicken on a bed of carrots and I ate the whole thing! Julian tried a Schnitzel with lamb meat for the first time- really worth a try - and accidentally dropped his GOPRO while taking shots onto the plate - I had better photos, but  I love imperfection when it is fun like that one!

The dish next to the amazing foam heap on the coffee is a "Butterschnitzel", minced calf meat with a chanterelle sauce. Just delicious!

Raspberries filled with white chocolate and raspberry brioche … mhhhh
Mousse au Chocolat for two ( to die for!)
Petit Four served with Zirbenwipfel - ice cream

You can book one of the few suites and stay over night, if the wine cellar tempted you to try some of the well selected wines: there is no wine list, you are invited to take a walk through the cellar and choose your own bottle,
bring it to the table and it will be served for you.
The many fun ideas the Reitbauers come up with to enchant your stay will make you smile many times, just enjoy and don't miss going to the bathroom - you will see!

We were stunned by their 4 new suites a little up the hill, overlooking the rolling hills of Styria!
