Roadtrip: Washington Coast

Roadtrip: Washington Coast

La Push Beach Washington

I had heard from multiple people what a magical place La Push was. It kept popping up in my instagram feed, followed by in the inevitable "it-took-us-5-hours-to-get-here-caption", so I put it on my secret wish list, assuming I'd never make it there. But, as always, Vincent was the one person that is always willing to go the extra mile for an adventure (you can read the first instalment of our adventures here) and suggested going there before I could even muster the courage to suggest the long trip to the coast, especially given the harsh sunlight would make taking great pictures virtually impossible.

Armed with coffee and an array of wildly random snacks we started driving up the coast in the morning, stopping at Lake Crescent and other random spots along the way. Essentially, it took as much longer than the advertised 5 hours to finally get to La Push, because we're photographers and we waste way too much time stopping to take pictures everywhere. We hiked through the woods for about 15 minutes until we reached second beach. I grew up on an island, so I have a sentimental attachment to the ocean, but nothing could have prepared me for the beauty of La Push. It was one of those surreal moments where you couldn't even believe that you were going to get to the beach, after hours of driving and walking through the thickest forest. We stayed for hours waiting for sunset, but were surprised by fog just as the light turned golden. I couldn't have asked for a more perfect day and better encouragement to always go the extra mile.

Manhattan Sunset

Manhattan Sunset

One of my favorite things about being on instagram, is being able to meet new and incredibly talented people. I also really love walking (people usually think the distances I walk in New York on a daily basis are absolutely insane), so I'm also up for walking over the bridges between Brooklyn and Manhattan. Out of all the bridges, the Manhattan Bridge is definitely my favorite for its views of downtown Manhattan. Two weeks ago I met Bethany, Cory and Cubby and we walked over the bridge at sunset to take pictures. The weather here in New York is still kind of unstable so I always make sure I have a thin jacket with me, not to mention my lovely new hat by Janessa Leone.

Spring in DC

Spring in DC

I guess to say that I like to travel would be quite the understatement. But, for me it's not really how far away from home I travel, but more to capture specific moments of everyday beauty. It sounds cheesy, but it's more the experience and the people I'm with that matter beyond the actual destination. Perhaps you could say it's the act of traveling that fascinates me. Why else would anyone sit on a bus for 9 hours in one day just to spend 6 hours wandering the streets of Washington, DC trying to find leftover cherry blossom trees. It's ironic that the feeling of being uprooted through a change in location makes me feel more at peace, but I think these pictures might convince you that a trip to Washington (view my guide on what to do here) during spring is just as necessary as having cupcakes at Baked and Wired in Georgetown. Join me for up-to-date adventures over on instagram.

P.S. I've included links to my hat and some other spring favorites at the end of this post and as always in our shop tab.

Searching for Spring

Searching for Spring

Saint Laurent Blush Bag

By the time March rolls around, we New Yorkers spend our time doing two things: complaining about the endless winter and playing bets whether yesterday's snow was the last of the year. It's also known as the time of year where I start wearing spring clothing in suboptimal temperatures (not to mention snow) and find myself wondering why I'm getting sick all of a sudden. So, in preparation for spring, I wanted to share my favorite items for spring (especially a roundup of my favorite blush colored bags). Here's to hoping this was actually the last snow fall of the season and I can wear this outfit without tights in the near future! Follow along on instagram here.

Jetlag Journeys

Brooklyn Bridge

I've been traveling quite a lot lately and am often up pretty early in the morning because of jetlag. Last week I grabbed Kevin and went out into the snow storm around 6 AM to take pictures while the streets were still empty and the snow still pristine. I love creating these short visual stories around New York and wanted to share my cold weather style favorites with you below! What helps me get through New York winters are definitely my Hunter Boots (especially when it gets slushy out), high socks, big scarveshats and cozy coats (my Thakoon coat is on sale btw!).
