In Chicago there is a Ralph Lauren Restaurant where we found this cookbook by Ricky his wife featuring their favorite recipes from the Hamptons. I fell in love it because it features quite a few Austrian dishes such as cucumber salad and appelstrudel. This is because part of her family lived in Vienna for a while and she is very fond of the Viennese kitchen.
While my life motto is basically "how to eat as much as possible every day without gaining too much weight", I haven't actually made very many opulent layer cakes. So here is my first attempt at a Chocolate Cake layered with mascarpone cream, an assortment of berries and drizzled with caramel (it already sounds like a mouthful, but don't worry it was incredibly easy to make).
We were nearby for state championship in swimming, and the day got really long in between the races. It is sometimes easier to try to get a table on short notice than planning ahead. We were lucky and were taken care of with charm and finesse by Mrs Reitbauer herself in a dirndl and her team. This is a legendary "Wirtshaus" known for its quality meat and excellent kitchen open only from Thursday to Sunday.
