I've dreamt of visiting Neuschwanstein Castle ever since I watched Chitty Chitty Bang Bang for the first time. While the masses of people there on any given summer day definitely diminish the experience (about 6000 people visit every day), the castle, perched on top of a hill in Bavaria was exactly how I'd always pictured it. A true fairy tale castle which was used as the inspiration for many palaces in the Disney princess movies. I'd highly recommend reserving tickets when you go, unless you fancy getting in line for several hours. To avoid the lines for the bus we hiked up the hill, getting in a little workout as well. We also got up at sunrise to walk through the empty streets of nearby Füssen, the cutest little town.
