From above the scenery looks like a painting by a skilled artist who uses his brush and colors as if his sole purpose was to inspire us to imagine something extraordinary.

The end of the worlds most beautiful trail - according to National Geographic - starting at Skogafoss in the south leads the wanderer through amazing landscape passing this Geysir.

The smell of sulphur is in the is and if you are not careful enough you could burn your skin easy with the steam that seems to come out of every little crack from beneath. I touched a rock carefully and yes the ground you walk on is hot near the fields of left over snow.

One can say not much survives out here, the climate is rough and the winters long. Look at the beauty of these heroes though. the pink ones filled with water to the brim.

We first saw this landscape from above by helicopter. That was an experience, maybe the best we had so far. The constant changing of the land beneath the ice, the water, the colors of the stones. No wonder most Icelanders believe in trolls or would not at least deny them. But then we took this monster of a car and drove up to the highland walking a stretch of the trail and feeling real small among those rocks of lava. Unforgettable ...
