When I was in Vienna last week my parents took me out for a special lunch at Vienna’s best restaurant, Steirereck, which is also the ninth best restaurant of the world. It's right in the heart of Vienna's "Stadtpark".
The interior of the restaurant is as beautiful as the food itself and the couple that run it are friends of my parents. As you already know, we seriously love our food, so this didn’t turn out to be the lightest lunch. We started out with some pink bubbles and some fairy sized nibbles.
After that the bread trolley (yes, I’m actually serious it’s a cart filled with bread) came, along with the most beautiful butter. Everyone who knows me fairly well, knows I love nothing more than good bread with butter, needless to say I was mildly obsessed with the variety of bread.
Next, my dad and I had the char, which was brought to the table raw and then cooked by pouring warm wax over it at for about 10 minutes until it reached the perfect consistency.
After the wax hardened, the fish was served to us in a slightly more appetizing fashion, and with much less wax.
Looks much better this way, right?
My mom had the rosa bianca aubergine, which is basically just an eggplant with fancy colors.
I opted for a classic Viennese Schnitzel for my main course, and I have to admit I don’t think I’ve ever had a better one.
Dad had the sturgeon with lemons and parsnips.
While mom had the carp with cauliflower.
To finish we all had an Austrian desert: Mohnnudlen (just know they are amazing and included poppy seeds and pistachios)
We ended our lovely meal with some seriously stunning citrus treats, coffee and of course a walk in the park in the warm spring weather.
** Since we posted this, the Steirereck has gone through serious remodeling, and looks nothing like this any more. Time we take more recent photos and show you all how well designed and tasteful the new restaurant presents itself since June 2014!
