I spent last weekend in Washington, DC and here are my picks of things you shouldn't miss when you visit. Given a mere 48 hours in this vast city I had to prioritize and thankfully I didn't regret any of the places I visited. As you already know, I started out my Saturday at Baked and Wired with coffee and cupcakes and a stroll around the beautiful Georgtown area, before heading out to see the monuments.

Don't miss out on the Lincoln Memorial, Holocaust Memorial, Korean War Memorial, Martin Luther Memorial and if you can't make it to the Thomas Jefferson Memorial be sure to walk along the Tidal Basin and see it from afar.

The distance between individual places in Washington was vast, so eventually we got extremely hungry and did as the Obamas do, had deep dish pizza at Pi Pizza, which is conveniently close to the main monuments.

As for museums, make sure you don't miss the Archives, the American History museum (I particularly liked the exhibit on the dresses of the first ladies over the years) the National Gallery of Art and of course make sure you walk past the White House at some point during your stay.

I have to admit one of my favorite things was walking around the Arlington Cemetery, and seeing the Kennedy memorial and graves along with the grave of the unknown soldier (I'll be sharing more pictures from here tomorrow). It's a little out of shot from the rest of the sights of Washington, but definitely worth the extra effort of getting there.

Last but not least, have dinner at Blue Duck Tavern and make sure to have their famous 2 person apple pie, which happens to be the best apple pie I've ever had and I may or may not have eaten it all by myself before I went to catch my train back to NYC.
